FAQ - Must Read Before Booking!

Why Book Dedicated Coverage?

Simple: you’re the priority. When you book with me directly, I’m locked in on your matches and you're not scrolling through instagram hoping one of the photographers happened to get your picture. You’ll get more focused coverage, better angles, and a faster turnaround than the general gallery.

Do you offer video?

I offer photography only- most tournaments have pretty strict rules around video, and in some cases, taking video can risk losing my press access. All of my packages are photo-only, you will get a gallery with a mix of both color and black and white portraits and action shots!

Pricing Specifics Please!

If you are selecting the Full Division Focus or Total Takedown, pricing is based on the total number of matches you compete in. The retainer reflects the additional scheduling and availability required to follow athletes through an entire bracket, including potential advancement rounds and priority coverage. This non-refundable retainer is not an additional fee, it is subtracted from your final invoice.

For each division (Gi or No Gi) first match: $100
Each additional match: $50
Bonus: Absolute/Open is now considered an extension if you have a divisional match (if default gold, first open match = $100).

You don’t need to know your number of matches ahead of time as your final balance is simply based on how many you end up competing in, without risking paying for a full division up front!

Full Division Focus Examples:
1 match → $100, nothing further owed
2 matches → $150
2 division plus 1 absolute → $200
Final invoice will be total minus $125 retainer. If your total is $150 you pay $25 after the event, etc.

Total Takedown Examples:
1 Gi, 1 No Gi match → $200, nothing further owed
1 Gi, 2 No Gi matches → $250
2 Gi, 1 Gi Open, 2 No Gi matches → $350
Final invoice will be total minus $225 retainer. If your total is $250 you pay $25 after the event, etc.

Please reach out to me if you have questions, or want to discuss your specific competition situation (kids signing up for extra divisions, 200 person brackets at national comps, etc)

Can I add the Open/Absolute Division?

You must tell me at booking if there is a chance you will be competing in the Absolute/Open as I can not guarantee I will be present if I do not know ahead of time. If you have a large enough bracket where entering the absolute/open division is not guaranteed, give me a heads up that you're interested in adding it and we can convert your Full Division Focus to Total Takedown after you podium.

As the opens/absolutes are usually held a the end of the event, I need to plan my schedule accordingly to make sure I can stay until the end of the day.

When do I pay?

A retainer based on your package is due up front to lock in your spot. I will send you an invoice, your place is not guaranteed until payment. I keep my client list small for each event so I can give every competitor the attention they deserve.
Within 24 hours of the event you will receive an invoice for the remaining balance which is based on number of matches that were covered as your progressed during your division, you will receive your private gallery within a few days of the event (usually sooner) after this is paid and before the general gallery is posted.

Why 2 invoices, can I just pay it all now?

I used to price per division, but found half the time athletes did not progress past the first round. Paying this way may be more work for me, but is less risky for the athletes. And as an athlete myself, I appreciate paying for each match vs a non-refundable lump sum (especially if the first match doesn't go my way).

Will you be at my tournament?

Check my Instagram bio for my current event list. If you don’t see it listed, DM me or reach out via the form below to double-check. I’m constantly updating my schedule.

Can I book day of?

We can try! Let me know your times and I will let you know what my capacity is. I do require payment before committing to the entire match.

Why do I have to sign a contract?

Think of it like the rules meeting before a match, it sets expectations so everyone knows what’s fair and what’s out of bounds. The contract makes sure we’re on the same page about what’s included, when you’ll get your photos, and locks in the time I’ve set aside just for you. That way, there are no surprises and your investment is protected- I personally appreciate a contract when I give a service provider my hard earned cash!

How do we find each other day-of?

I give you my cell when booking as we have a lot of contact points throughout the day! You'll send me a selfie when you're in your gi/kit, then text when entering the bullpen, and when on deck. I know its multiple texts, but truly helps as sometimes the schedule changes minute by minute or mats run early so this way I don't miss anything!

What if my mat or match time changes?

No problem! Happens all the time. Just drop me a quick message (or have a coach/friend do it), and I’ll adjust on the fly. I try to track all my clients closely but sometimes am shooting another client so real-time updates are always needed.

When will I get my photos?

Private galleries are guaranteed within 7 days of the tournament (for extra-long weekends or big events, it might take up to 10). HOWEVER, you have priority and will receive yours before the general gallery is posted!

Can I post my photos?

Yes, please! Share them with family, print them out, post on your personal pages (and tag @MatsAndBats when you do so I can see your favorites!).

IMPORTANT: Tagging a brand in a personal social media post is permitted. If you're using the images for sponsorships, merch, or other business use, let’s chat about licensing.

Does the main gallery include all photos?

All photos taken that day go into the main gallery for purchase, but dedicated coverage gets a private, password protected gallery with all their photos taken during the package time. While I state 5-10 photos in the contract, provided the match lasts several minutes you generally get 10+

Do I get photos with my medal?

I try to make it to your podium during the medal presentation, however the schedule works where another clients match got moved to the same time and I have to remain mat side. That said, we will take a podium photo of you or have a quick posed photo session with your medal as the schedule allows!

What if I lose?

Doesn’t matter. You showed up, stepped out of your comfort zone, and put it all on the line and that deserves to be captured. I’m not just shooting wins, I’m photographing courage, commitment, and your journey. Win or lose, your story is worth remembering.

What if I get sick, injured, don't make weight, lose in the first round...

If you withdraw at least one week before the event and provide your official withdrawal confirmation from the competition, I’ll gladly reschedule you for a comparable future event I’ll be attending—provided it doesn’t conflict with clients already booked for that date. Last minute withdrawals (including making weight) are not eligible for refunds as your retainer reserves limited event capacity and affects how many additional clients I am able to accept. Please contact me with reasons.

Where is my exciting/jawdropping photo?

I set myself up mat side in the best possible position, there are additional factors as to what type of photo I get: are you facing the other side of the mat? Was it 5 minutes of one athlete in the others side control? Did something dynamic happen? The photos are dictated on the match itself

Can you capture my superfight?

I enjoy photographing super fight events and my pricing is structured differently depending on the event, so message me!

Can I cap matches?

Our contract states I will photograph your scheduled matches until the division ends. If for some reason you want to stop dedicated coverage after the first match of the division (per division) even though you will be competing in more matches, you can let me know in person at which point I will send a text confirming in writing coverage has been stopped.

...Are you sure you don't do video?

I’m all about snapping your best submissions and escapes in photos- I’m focused on locking in the perfect shot!

Let Me Know You’ll Be There

  • Ready to lock it in? Just send over your name (as it appears on registration), the event name and date, and which coverage package you’d like to book.
  • Still on the fence? Totally fine. I take a limited number of clients per tournament, so letting me know you're considering it helps me keep a spot in mind for you.
  • Just planning to show up and roll? I'd still love to know you're competing. I truly cannot promise any coverage without a booking especially as I am selling out each event, but I'll do my best to swing by your mat if my schedule allows.

Fill out the form to the right to reach out. Can’t wait to hear from you!
